Gluten Free Apple Crisp Recipe

Here in PA, it’s the perfect time of year to enjoy all the benefits of fresh apples. When you’re out at one of the many apple festivals in the area grab some fresh, locally grown apples and try this delicious and healthy recipe.

What you’ll need:

Honey Crisp Apples

Maple Syrup

All-Natural Cinnamon Applesauce

Rolled Oats

All-Natural Vanilla

Cinnamon

Lemon Juice

Brown Sugar

Rice Flour (I recommend Anthony’s premium white rice flour from Amazon)

Salt

Butter or Ghee

Recipe

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2.  Butter an 8×8 baking dish.
  3.  Dice 5 to 6 apples and put in a mixing bowl.
  4. Add 1 1/2 teaspoons of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup to the apples and toss.
  5. Put apples in 8×8 baking dish, cover them with the cinnamon applesauce and stir. It should almost resemble a pie filling. Then, add a teaspoon of cinnamon and stir it all together. (Depending how much you like cinnamon, you could skip adding it here, because we’re going to put more on top).
  6. In another bowl add:
  • 3/4 cup old fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup rice flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Then stir it all together.

8. Take 1/2 cup of butter or ghee, dice it into small cubes. Add each cube to the oat’s mixture one by one. using two forks or your hands to evenly mush the butter into the mixture.

(For a dairy free option you can skip the butter, and evenly mix the oat mixture into the apples/applesauce and stir. Without the butter it will cook as a very hard topping, but mixing it in with the apples and applesauce will soften it. You will just have it mixed in instead of as a crunchy topping.)

9. Sprinkle mixture on top of apples in pan, patting it down to make sure it’s evenly distributed. Then sprinkle some cinnamon on top.

10. Bake for 40-60 minutes (depending on how big you cut your apple chunks), and when the topping is golden brown and the apples are soft, it’s done!
